Peace Corps Samoa is honored to take part in Samoa’s drive to ensure all residents are vaccinated against COVID-19. In early March, the Samoan government requested assistance from Peace Corps’ medical team in the government’s campaign to vaccinate children ages 5 to 11 years old.
Peace Corps Samoa Country Director Gini Wilderson said that Peace Corps Samoa is pleased to offer support to Samoa’s Ministry of Health as part of Peace Corps’ “Delivering on our Mission During COVID” program and consistent with the U.S. government’s framework for COVID-19 response and recovery.
“This is a really important initiative. Our medical team is delighted to play a role in Samoa’s important initiative to vaccinate 5 to 11-year-olds, which will in turn protect the health and safety of the country.”
Peace Corps is also loaning the use of a Peace Corps vehicle and driver to transport vaccination teams to school vaccination sites, with plans to continue to assist the Ministry of Health as along as services are needed. As of March 11, the Peace Corps team had vaccinated 176 children. It is expected that this campaign will continue at least through the end of March.
