The Government of Samoa activated the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) in response to reports of increasing earthquake activities in the vicinity of the Vailu’ulu’u Seamount in American Samoa. The Samoan Meteorology Office will continue to monitor the situation and provide regular updates to the NEOC and the public. At this stage it is unclear if the increase in seismic activity will escalate further, but U.S. citizens in Samoa are urged to follow updates and the direction and advisories of local authorities. Additional details are available in the NEOC Public Notice released August 13.
